UL94 flammability standards
About the business case
Skaza will focus on the development of polycarbonate (PC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)/PC blends with high post-consumer recycled (PCR) content for electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) applications. The safety of EEE is of paramount importance. As a result, plastic components in EEE applications must meet stringent regulatory requirements. One of the most important properties of plastic materials for EEE components is their flammability, which is usually evaluated according to the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 94 standard, which classifies plastics into 6 different classes according to their flammability. Together with the project partners, Skaza will aim to develop materials that meet the requirements of UL 94 V-0, which is one of the more stringent flammability classes. The successful development of such materials will enable the use of PCR plastics in highly demanding EEE applications, resulting in products with a reduced environmental footprint.
