Insights in potential solutions to enhance uptake of recycled plastics in added value products from a CE systems perspective, that’s what we are delivering. After all, a lot of companies have ambitions to increase the recycled content of their products and are looking for help to find the secondary resources that match their requirements, both with respect to quality and quantity.

Therefore, we investigate how we can shift the setup of plastic recycling from a waste push perspective (what is the best way to treat plastic-containing waste?) towards setups from a market pull perspective (what is the best way to setup supply chains of secondary materials). 

This means identifying and optimizing recycling system set-ups that deliver recycled plastics, polymers and monomers of a quality that meets demand criteria and allows their uptake in added value products, with the aim of maximizing the circularity of plastics.Existing models, mass flow analyses, and forecasts on plastic recycling all are conceived from a waste management perspective, focussing on the environmental threat and burden of plastics for the environment. Focus on waste management and relative, weight-based recycling targets rather than on quality, volume and availability of secondary resources.
