Regulatory & Policy

Policies and regulations play a key role in directing and accelerating the circular economy transition. These policies must often balance various objectives, such as promoting the use of recycled content and ensuring product and chemical safety. 

In the INCREACE project, ETH Zurich will investigate how the current policy and regulatory landscape affects plastics recycling and the use of recycled plastics in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). We will provide an overview of the current EU policy mix and analyze the regulatory drivers and barriers to increasing plastics circularity in electronics. Our research will examine how different policy instruments impact various actors in the value chain and highlight potential conflicts, gaps, and coordination issues within the policy landscape. 

The outcomes of this research can offer valuable insights to EU policymakers on improving the design of existing policies and regulations. Additionally, we will provide an extensive list of EU policy instruments and the actors they target, serving as a useful knowledge base for value chain actors in the EEE and recycling value chain.
