First demonstrator with recycled materials

Milestone achieved! Our consortium partner Cabka has just unveiled the very first prototype pallets with electrostatic discharge (ESD) properties produced from recycled polypropylene (PP)!

Key takeaways from the prototype

– Impressive Resistivity: Recycled PP maintained similar performance to virgin PP.
– Mechanical performance: The pallets passed performance tests.
– WEEE Potential: Next step is to inject WEEE-based PP into pallets, while lab tests already look promising.

This brings us a step closer to understanding how recycled content can be safely and effectively used in high-performance products.

Goal of Cabka within INCREACE

After obtaining good results at laboratory scale with recycled material, work has been done to move from laboratory scale to industrial scale: pallets prototypes have been obtained with ESD recycled material.

Cabka has unveiled the very first prototype pallets with electrostatic discharge (ESD) properties produced from recycled polypropylene (PP).

Prototype Highlights:

  • Resistivity: Recycled PP maintained similar performance to virgin PP achieving pallets which are situated in a conductive range,

Robust Mechanics: Pallets have been submitted to next tests:

Corner Drop Test: Corner drop ISO 8611-9

A corner drop test for pallets assesses a pallet’s ability to withstand impact on its corners. This involves dropping the pallet from a specified height onto a hard surface, with the corner making first contact. The purpose is to evaluate the pallet’s structural integrity, particularly its diagonal rigidity and resistance to impact damage, which is crucial for ensuring safe handling and transportation.

Forklifting test: Racking ISO 8611 2b

This test determines structural integrity and load-bearing capacity of a pallet when it is supported on the forklift arms.

Racking Test: Racking ISO 8611 1b

A racking test is a procedure used to evaluate the structural integrity and load-bearing capacity of a pallet in a racking system. It involves applying forces, typically in a controlled manner, to assess how the system behaves under load and to identify potential weaknesses or failure points.
