INCREACE at Electronics Goes Green Conference
From June 17th to 20th, several INCREACE partners and advisory board members attended the “Electronics Goes Green Conference – From Silicon to Sustainability” in Berlin. Organized by Fraunhofer IZM, the conference featured over 200 presentations by researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders, all focusing on the sustainability of the electronics and ICT sectors.
The conference covered a wide range of topics, addressing various lifecycle stages and sustainability challenges for electronic products.
In a session dedicated to WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) collection rates, Flora Poppelaars from Partners for Innovation shared insights on enhancing collection rates through consumer-friendly designs. Our partner, ERION, highlighted effective practices for the collection of small batteries.
During the plastics recycling for electronics session, advisory board member Arthur Schwesig discussed the current activities of Bage Plastics in recycling plastics from WEEE. David Pfeffer from ETH Zurich presented a study evaluating the current policy mix for plastics recycling and the use of recycled plastics in electronics within the EU.
In another session focused on Digital Product Passport developments, Theresa Aigner shared insights on the efforts to align industrial data with the requirements of digital product passports.
Additionally, Eduard Wagner chaired a session on bio-based materials, while Tapani Jokinen led a session on product design strategies and trade-offs.
Overall, the conference was a great way for the INCREACE consortium to connect and gain insights into various challenges associated with enhancing the sustainability of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE). It also provided a deeper understanding of the challenges that exist for different materials in the sector.
