Meet the partner: Simon Van den Eynde of KU Leuven
Simon van den Eynde graduated from KU Leuven with a Bachelor in Engineering Science and a Master in Mechanical Engineering. He is currently doing his PhD research at KU Leuven, focusing on sensor-based sorting of non-ferrous metals and plastics.

Can you shortly introduce yourself and your role in the INCREACE project?
‘I am Simon Van den Eynde, a PhD student in the Life Cycle Engineering research group at KU Leuven. KU Leuven is mainly involved in Work Package 1 of the INCREACE project: the data-driven optimisation of the sorting processes and traceability.’
How did KU Leuven get involved in the INCREACE project?
‘Our research group participated in the PolyCE project and therefore was already familiar with most of the INCREACE partners.’
How do you see the added value of INCREACE for KU Leuven?
‘The INCREACE project will expand our knowledge on plastic sorting and recycling.’
What is the role of KU Leuven in the INCREACE project?
‘To sort plastic waste as such that the recycled material can be used in the products of the Business Case owners.’
What do you hope to achieve by the end of the project?
‘An increased recycled content of the products of most or preferably all Business Case owners.’
