Meet the partner: Jens Giegerich from Vorwerk

Jens Giegerich is coordinating the project on behalf of Vorwerk. As a trusted family business, they are committed to act in a socially and environmentally responsible way.

Can you shortly introduce your role in the INCREACE project?

Since I work in the area Technical Regulatory Affairs, I also bring my experience in standardisation to the table. In simple terms, this means that I help to “translate” research results into possible general guidelines. I then take these suggestions to relevant standardisation committees.

How did Vorwerk get involved in the INCREACE project?

Vorwerk has been addressed by Fraunhofer to participate in the project. As a sustainability-minded company and provider of high-quality products, Vorwerk is known to strive for even more environmentally friendly products. For instance, by increasing the uptake of recycled materials.

How do you see the added value of INCREACE for Vorwerk?

Using recycled materials in food contact applications is currently non-common or not possible for household appliance manufacturers. We would like to be a trailblazing in this field – and hope to achieve this with INCREACE. Our aim is to establish an EFSA-accepted process to use recycled materials for food contact purposes. With our strong direct sales organisation, we will be able to bring the solution to our customers.

What is the role of Vorwerk in the INCREACE project?

Vorwerk leads one of the business cases, the use of recycled materials for food contact purpose.

What do you hope to achieve by the end of the project?

We hope that we will be able to set up an EFSA-accepted process which would allow us to use recycled materials for a specific food contact application.
